CERTIFICATE IN MASSAGE MODALITIES

NZQA accredited

The course comprises 108 hours classroom plus 24 hours practicum, and introduces students to relaxation massage and related modalities. It combines 7 modules (over 9 weekends), plus a requirement of 24 hours of practicum, to complete the certificate. A 90% attendance is required. The focus is on practical, hands-on learning with some theory included.

Modules will be held on nine weekends - Saturday and Sunday 9.30am to 4.30pm

COURSE CONTENTS 2012

Massage 1, 2 & 3

Tutor: Trina Bergloff-Howes

Massage 1 - 17 & 18 March.

Some of the basic Swedish massage techniques and how to massage the head and face, neck and shoulders and the feet; seated chair session.  

Massage 2 - 21 & 22 April.

Massage of the back, arms and hands; review and link components.

Massage 3 - 19 & 20 May.

Massage of the legs; carry out a frontal massage and put a full session together to promote relaxation and a feeling of well-being.

(Please note - Massage 1, 2 & 3 is also taught as an evening class on 12 Wednesdays from 6.30 pm - 9.30 pm with tutor Jenny Allan from mid 2012)

Foot Reflexology

Tutor: Cathy Caldwell

16 & 17 June.

A modality based on the principle that there are reflexes in the hands and feet corresponding to all parts of the body. It is a powerful touch therapy which reduces stress and brings the body to homoeostasis, a state of balance.

Movement Integration

Tutor: Alan Blacktopp

21 & 22 July.

This comprises Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) lessons based on the Feldenkrais®Method, which offer a gentle way to expand your self awareness and body functioning.

Polarity Therapy

Tutor: Glenda Palmer

18 & 19 August.

Polarity Therapy offers powerful, gentle and simple body techniques that incorporate relaxation, revitalisation and energy balancing principles. The effect is relaxation of the physical body and resultant calming of the mind, which together promote the healing process.

Sports Massage

Tutor: Tina Cummins

22 & 23 September.

Pre and post event massage, the role of stretching and the maintenance of an injury-free state.

Aromatherapy

Tutor: Cathy Caldwell

3 & 4 November (please note, dates incorrect on prospectus).

Aromatherapy is the application of essential oils to enhance ones well-being. You will study a range of essential oils and how to use them in simple blends to produce the desired effect.

Combining Modalities & Acupressure

Tutor: Glenda Palmer

24 & 25 November.

There will be a six-hour introduction to acupressure, and you will practice how to combine learned techniques into sessions to meet the needs of your receiver.

 

Costs

Current tuition fees are provided in our prospectus, or enquire at our office. If space permits, students are able to enrol in individual weekend modules.

The fee can be paid by Automatic Payment. WINZ subsidies available.

Enrolment

This is always a popular course and gives individuals the skills to massage friends and family. Individuals may choose to come to single weekends if space permits. Enrol now for 2012.

This course is approved by NZ Qualifications Authority under the provisions of the Education Act 1989, and the Lotus Holistic Centre is accredited to teach it.
