CERTIFICATE IN HERBAL STUDIES (non-practising)This one or two-year certificate teaches Herbal Medicine for treating yourself and your family. Course contentHerbal Medicine 1A and 1B (128 hours) Current tuition fees are provided in our prospectus, or enquire at our office.
The herbal medicine course is taught during the full-time teaching schedule. A timetable for classes is available on request from the office. For more information on Herbal Studies course modules click HERE. Anatomy and Physiology A & B Current tuition fees are provided in our prospectus, or enquire at our office. Anatomy & Physiology A & B is available on either Monday morning or Monday evening. This course has been approved for student loans but individual students must be studying 0.25 of a full time course to be eligible for a loan. Students ineligible for loans may pay for their courses by means of fortnightly automatic payments. Some textbooks and photocopied notes are available from the college but not included in the fee. Course modulesHerbal Medicine 1AMateria Medica Hours: 64 Tutor: Mary Allan Descriptor: The study of medicinal herbs within a materia medica context Outcomes: Individuals credited with the completion of this unit are able to describe not less than 80 and not more than 100 selected medicinal herbs. This description encompasses both traditional and contemporary understanding of the key therapeutic actions, indications, constituents, cautions, contraindications, dosages and toxicity of each medicinal herb; alongside nomenclature, habitat, morphology and preparation of indicated forms of delivery of the medicinal herb. Posology Descriptor: The study of the formulation, dosing and clinical dispensing of herbal medicines. Outcomes: Individuals credited with the completion of this unit are able to describe appropriate forms and dosages of herbal medicines, understand the issues associated with formulating incompatible herbs, and have knowledge of the formulation and dispensing of a herbal formula, the writing of a herbal prescription, the maintenance of patient records and a herbal medicines adverse reactions register. Herb Growing Hours: 16 Tutors : Geoff and Jan Speeden Descriptor: The study of the growing of herbal plants Outcomes: Individuals credited with the completion of this unit are able to describe the principles and practice of herbal medicine cultivation and demonstrate competency in the planting, growing, harvesting, drying and storage of medicinal herbs. Manufacturing and Dispensing Hours: 32 Tutors: Geoff and Jan Speeden Descriptor: The study of the manufacture and dispensing of herbal products. Outcomes: Individuals credited with the completion of this unit are able to describe the manufacturing process of various low-toxicity, safe herbal medicine preparations and be competent in the manufacture and dispensing of those preparations.
